Professional Profile

Professor emerita (since 2021) of Economics of the Athens University of Economics and Business where she was a professor since 2001 and the head of the Department of Economics in 2015-2020. She has been a visiting fellow at Oxford University and visiting professor at the LSE, where she remains a Research Associate. She has published extensively in international academic journals with her work receiving more than 3000 citations.


She was deputy governor of the Bank of Greece (2008-2014) responsible for monetary policy, bank resolution, the national mint and cash management. She was also president of the Hellenic Deposit Guarantee Fund and served as member of the International Relations Committee of the ECB. Currently, she is a member of the Appeal Panel of the Single Resolution Board of European banks in Brussels and a board member of IOBE and the Hellenic Observatory at the LSE.
